Why Many Ecotec Builds Eliminate the Exhaust Cam Sensor

Many VVT Ecotec cylinder heads use an additional exhaust camshaft position sensor that earlier GM Ecotec ECUs and wiring harnesses do not require.

This is especially common when:

• installing VVT heads onto earlier non-VVT engine harnesses
• performing VVT head swaps on L61 applications
• converting to standalone engine management
• simplifying race-only engine wiring
• performing COP/non-VVT head conversions

In these applications, the additional exhaust cam sensor simply becomes unused.
