BK Racing Oil Control Baffle vs. Factory Windage Tray: What's the Difference?

One of the most common misconceptions in the GM Ecotec community is that a windage tray and an oil control baffle perform the same function.

Although both components are found inside or near the oil pan, they solve two completely different problems.

Understanding the difference is important when building a reliable race engine because one component controls how oil returns to the sump, while the other controls where that oil stays once it gets there.

What Is the Factory Windage Tray?

The factory windage tray is mounted between the rotating crankshaft assembly and the oil pan.
