Do Performance Ecotec Intake Valves Increase CFM? MWR Low-Lift Testing

The Reported Development Result

During development with MWR Technologies, the BK Racing intake prototype showed approximately 10 CFM more airflow than the OEM intake valve at .050-inch lift on the same cylinder head and flow bench. The largest reported improvement was at low lift, and the difference narrowed as lift increased.

This is the evidence behind the airflow discussion on the HF35.6 product page. It should remain described as a prototype result in that test configuration, rather than a +10 CFM promise for every production valve, every cylinder head or every point on the flow curve.

Why Low-Lift Flow Deserves Attention

An intake valve passes through low lift while opening and closing. The seat and valve-head region influence that flow path. A peak-flow figure at one high-lift point can miss changes elsewhere in the curve.

The engine does not hold the valve at a fixed lift during operation. Cam timing, pressure differences, port behavior and engine speed affect how bench results translate to running performance. A low-lift gain can be useful evidence without establishing a specific torque or horsepower increase.

What to Record in a Repeatable Comparison

A report should identify the cylinder head, seat work, port preparation, test depression, bore fixture, intake entry arrangement, valve part or revision and lift increments. Record the entire curve, not just the point with the largest difference.

For a valve comparison, keep other variables constant wherever possible and describe any seat work required between versions. If the head or valve job changes, the result measures that combined change. The available product information does not provide every fixture detail; we do not invent those details here.

What This Result Does Not Prove

The test does not establish a numerical advantage over Ferrea, Supertech, ZZP or OTTP intake valves. It also does not prove that every larger valve flows better or that +10 CFM converts directly into a fixed horsepower number.

Use the geometry guide to understand the design features and the comparison framework to keep measured results separate from unknowns. The BK intake and exhaust set brings both valve designs together, but intake and exhaust test results should still be reported separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Was the +10 CFM measured at .500 inch?

No. The reported intake prototype comparison is at .050-inch lift.

Is there a guaranteed horsepower increase?

No. The finished engine combination needs its own testing.
