Ecotec Intake Valve Shape: Backside Profile, Flat Face & Undercut Stem
Identify the Surfaces Before Comparing Valves
The chamber-side face is the surface facing the piston. The seating face contacts the seat. The backside is the port-side shape that transitions toward the stem. These surfaces do different jobs, so a photograph of one does not describe the whole valve.
The BK HF35.6 combines a flat chamber-side face, an airflow-focused backside and an undercut stem. Those features work with the nominal 35.6 mm head rather than replacing the need for a suitable seat and port.
The Backside and Stem Are in the Flow Path
When the valve opens, air approaches through the port and changes direction around the valve head into the chamber. The backside transition and exposed stem create part of that path. An undercut reduces the local stem diameter in the exposed region while retaining the main guide-running diameter.
The effect of a profile change depends on the rest of the head. A favorable result in one seat and chamber combination cannot be applied numerically to every casting. Read the prototype flow result with that limitation in mind.
A Flat Face Can Change More Than Appearance
Changing the chamber-side shape can change the volume occupied by the valve when seated. It can also change the closest relationship between the valve and piston. Measure chamber volume and piston clearance in a high-compression build rather than assigning a compression increase from appearance.
The backside angle should not be confused with the seating-face angle. This guide deliberately avoids assigning a final seat angle or backside angle where the current product listing does not publish one. The machinist needs the current component specification.
Measure the Finished Head
Check seat contact, guide clearance, chamber shrouding, valve-to-valve clearance and the assembled rocker relationship. Select the correct tip configuration for the camshaft, then use the clearance checklist during assembly.
The complete BK intake and exhaust valve package provides both valve sets, but intake and exhaust profile decisions should still be evaluated against their respective ports and seats.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the flat face the back of the valve?
Here, flat face means the chamber-side surface; backside means the port-side transition.
Does an undercut eliminate the need to check guides?
No. Guide clearance is established at the main guide-running stem section.
